We were delighted to be successful in our tender to supply bespoke windows and doors for this prestigious renovation project on an 18th century, Grade II Listed Property.  Originally described as a farmhouse, the building is constructed in red brick with flared headers, tiled roof and modillion cornice to the eaves.  Working closely with the appointed building contractor who would be undertaking the entire project including the sympathetic renovation of the existing building and the new additions, Robin Clevett of Listed and New Build Ltd. based in Surrey, we supplied custom-made windows and doors for the alterations to the existing building and for the new extensions.

The windows and bi-folding doors for the kitchen extension were glazed with 24mm argon gas filled double glazed units with inset spacer bars and externally applied glazing bars to give the appearance of single panes of glass.  This system enables us to replicate the fine Georgian glazing bars in the original windows whilst complying with the thermal requirements of the Building Regulations for an overall window uvalue rating of 1.6.  Internally the glazing bars are constructed in the traditional way with morticed, tenoned and half lapped joints.  The bi-folding door set was designed with the Georgian style glazing bars to complement the new casement windows.

The Local Planning Authority decided that the alterations to the main building which included the single storey bay window extension, would need to replicate the design of the original joinery in order to preserve the integrity of the building.  As they were supplied as like-for-like replacements and additions, they were single glazed with 4mm float glass, toughened where appropriate.  Every care was taken to reproduce the features of the original windows and doors.  Two timber replacement sliding box sash windows were designed to operate on cord and weights in the traditional way and the new dormer casement windows were manufactured to replicate the originals on the front elevation of the house.

These photographs perfectly illustrate the juxtaposition of old and new styling and technology working in harmony to create a comfortable home which incorporates the requirements of modern lifestyles whilst preserving a beautiful heritage property.
