CASE STUDIES - Recent Projects
KITCHEN EXTENSION October 2009
To create a light and airy kitchen/dining room extension to this large, detached property, we were commissioned to manufacture and install two roof lanterns, one set of eight bi-folding doors and various windows and fixed doors. All the joinery has been glazed with 24mm double glazed units and the glass on the roof lanterns has a solar control and easy clean finish.

REPLACEMENT WINDOWS AND DOORS Hastings, East Sussex September/October 2009
As part of a major refurbishment to a large Victorian villa in Hastings, Parsons Joinery were commissioned to replace most of the sliding sash windows and some of the doors. Using up-to-date glazing technology in the form of slim 14mm crypton filled units giving a U-value of 1.6, we were able to comply with current Building Regulations and improve the thermal efficiency of the windows whilst maintaining the appearance of the fine glazing bars.

RENOVATIONS TO A TERRACED PROPERTY Lewes, East Sussex 2009
Over a period of several months, we have been involved in renovations to this delightful brick faced terraced cottage which have included replacement windows throughout, traditional sliding sash at the front and rear, a sliding Yorkshire window in the kitchen and a casement in the bathroom. Shutters were fitted to the windows for increased privacy which is particularly important at the front of the house. The existing front door was replaced with a four panel door with bolection moulding. As space is at a premium, various storage cupboards were incorporated within the under stairs space and bedrooms and a bathroom storage cabinet with magnifying mirror. New glazed patio doors lead out to the secluded, walled and terraced garden and a new staircase was built and installed to meet with current Building Regulations.

UNIQUE FRONT DOOR MANUFACTURED AND FITTED TO TERRACED PROPERTY Lewes, East Sussex May 2009
Two oak doors were manufactured in fitted for clients in Lewes. Individual, handcrafted coloured glass was fitted within each aperture and the doors were both treated with Danish oil.

BI-FOLDING DOORS Lewes, East Sussex February 2009
This project involved the manufacture and installation of two sets of bi-folding doors opening outwards onto a beautiful secluded, walled rear garden in a property in Lewes. Keith Brand, building contractor, had been commissioned to remove an internal wall between the dining room and kitchen, providing the client with a large, open plan family space to incorporate the new kitchen, island unit and large family dining area. The bi-folding doors can either be used as a single opening door in each set or can be fully folded back flat against the wall to create an open aspect to the garden in the summer months.

ROOF LANTERN Lewes, East Sussex December 2008
When our clients relocated to their beautiful new home close to the South Downs, they wanted to improve the appearance of a rather dated lean-to addition to the back of the house which had a sloping corrugated plastic roof which was leaking badly. The overall structure was sound but the appearance of the extension was dingy and dated.
The main part of the house whilst comfortable and warm and packed with period features tends to be quite dark in the daytime and would benefit from a light and airy room for rest and relaxation and to enjoy the landscaped private garden to the rear of the house.
Working closely with their chosen builder who would be forming the flat roof and preparing the aperture for the roof lantern to sit upon, we were commissioned to manufacture an 1800mm x 4300mm roof lantern, manufactured in idigbo with brown aluminium capping to the exterior and easy clean, thermal reflective double glazed units.
Our clients are delighted with the finished result. The newly painted joinery to the interior has created a lovely spacious feel to the room and the lantern has transformed the lean-to into a beautiful orangery with the added benefit of thermal control glazing to avoid overheating in the summer sunshine.

ROOF LANTERN London May 2008
Our clients, who own a flat in a townhouse in London which has a flat roof, wanted to form a roof garden with access via a sliding lantern which would also create an interesting feature whilst lighting a dark stairwell.
We supplied a custom-made roof lantern, 2150mm long by 1000mm wide, for their contractor to assemble and fit onto a prepared aperture with a sliding mechanism. They have finished the idigbo timber internally to match the oak steps which lead up to the opening.
We required a lantern roof for a flat in London and were aware of Parsons Joinery through the British Woodworking Federation. Their website showed lantern roofs of various designs and they were able to help enormously with all my requirements. We could not fault in any way their administration, the product, or the degree to which they assisted by marking up the components, as it was to be assembled on site. This latter point being most important and had a major impact on the assembly time and gave comfort in the knowledge of getting it right.
The final result is something which gives everything we wished for and more. It offers the most beautiful and varied light, allows access to our roof space and is a pleasure simply to look at.
Thank you to Joanne, Paul and all the others who made it possible at Parsons Joinery.

DORKING PROJECT Shopfront installation June 2007
We were commissioned by Jackson-Stops & Staff, Estate Agents and Property Consultants, to manufacture and install a replacement shopfront in utile hardwood at their High Street office in Dorking. Crucial to the project installation was to minimise disruption to the business so the installation was planned to be completed within a two day period on 12th and 13th June 2007 with the closure of the office for the first day only, ensuring safe public access on the second day. On the first day the existing shopfront was removed and replaced with the new one fully glazed to leave the shop secure overnight. All work was successfully completed on the second day, all within 48 hours as promised.
BERWICK PROJECT - Custom-made garden building
We are currently awaiting design approval from English Heritage for a 16 metre by 4 metre greenhouse in the grounds of a listed building in Berwick, East Sussex. The greenhouse will be manufactured in iroko and a sample panel showing the construction and section sizes has been submitted for their approval.
It will be used as a working greenhouse and the gardeners are keen to have the project completed before the first frosts so that their precious plants will be protected. Builders have begun work on the brickwork but have needed to interrupt their work as the overhead electricity cables will need to be buried underground. Once these preparatory measures have been completed, our installation team will take over requiring three scaffolding platforms to enable them to access the upper levels of the greenhouse and the roof timbers.
10.1.07 The project has received all the necessary permissions and we have started to erect the garden building. However, the incessant rain is not helping us to make fast progress. The scaffolding is due to be erected within the next few days so that our installation team can access the roof sections once the sides have been completed.
We have also supplied and installed various other joinery items on the estate including doors, windows and gates, examples of which have been illustrated.
25.1.07 Despite cold and snowy conditions this week, we have been able to complete the roof sections on the greenhouse, ready for glazing next week.
HEATHFIELD PROJECT - Window replacement
Our installation team are currently replacing all the windows in an old farmhouse with extensive grounds and beautiful countryside views. Our clients located the property on the internet whilst they were living in London and craving a countryside retreat. When they bought the property the windows were a mixture of styles, some plastic and some painted wood. They wanted something more in keeping with the aesthetic appearance of the building and, in consultation with Trevor, decided on a casement style window with opening sashes glazed with traditional, hand-made leaded lights. The windows have been manufactured in hardwood and we will be fitting black forged window furniture with lockable fasteners for security purposes.
10.1.07 The window installation is now complete and they have certainly upgraded the appearance of the building.
LEWES PROJECT - Fitted bookshelves and a pair of French doors
These clients required a storage solution for their books. We designed and manufactured custom-made bookcases that would be fitted in the alcoves either side of the chimney breast in the lounge. They decided on a contemporary design manufactured in painted MDF.
Additionally, they needed to replace a pair of French doors that opened out onto their patio as the existing doors had rotted. They have replaced them with higher specification doors which incorporate double glazed units and a three point espagnolette locking system for additional security, stability and energy efficiency.
SEVENOAKS PROJECT - Commercial project working as a sub-contractor to a building company
We have been contracted to supply and fit replacement windows and doors by a local building company for their client who was unhappy with the quality and energy efficiency of the existing single glazed windows and doors in the property. They will be replacing these with double glazed, stained hardwood joinery throughout the property. These replacements include a set of bi-folding doors on a track system with three doors folding one way and the single opening independently. These doors open from the lounge into the conservatory. An oak staircase has also been designed to rise from the ground floor to the attic, over three floors.
